I created this account for my hermit crab pictures. They just didn't look right in my gallery next to my wildlife and landscape shots, but I still think they are decent photos and very cute subjects!
I have had hermit crabs for about three years now, and I have grown very fond of them! I started out with a tiny plastic tank and commercial food, like so many other new crab owners, but I quickly realized (thanks to the help of the hermit crab association) that I was doing everything wrong. Hermit crabs are very sensitive creature that can live 30+ years, and have very specific needs in order to thrive.
I have since upgraded from a plastic tank to a 55 gallon glass tank with two levels, two 2 liter aerated pools (one fresh and one salt), very deep sand/eco earth substrate, a 150 watt heat lamp, fresh food and minerals, and plenty of places to climb and hide. I have about 20 hermit crabs consisting of 4 different species.
If you have any questions about hermit crabs and how to care for them, don't hesitate to ask me or visit the links below!

I even wrote up a very detailed 7-page care sheet if anybody is interested.
